How to build a profitable client base

  • Research  -  Know where the money is.
  • Rates  -  Two out of three rule - quality/price/speed.
  • Realisation  -  Determine your profitability at the level of the engagement.
  • Remuneration  -  Revenue is vanity; profit is sanity.
  • Review and rid -  To grow the high end of the business you must abandon the low end of the business.

and the means

  • Recognition   -  Anyone can buy image; you earn reputation.
  • Referrals -  The key to referrals is to exceed expectations...but you must let the client know you have done so.
  • Rapport  -  Treat every client as a prospect and every prospect as a client.
  • Repeat business  -  It costs five to six times more to attract a new client than to keep one.
  • Relationship -  People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.
