Six Tools for effective Strategic Thinking

Stuck for a way to harness a group's strategic thinking? Not sure how to resolve an issue? The solution is on hand. For more than a decade now Insight Plus has facilitated workshops, retreats and strategic thinking.
We have used numerous tools. Some work; some don't. Success is not only dependent on the tool or process used; very often group dynamics has a strong influence.
The half dozen tools that follow are among the most useful we have come across. They can be quickly used in any meeting. All you need is a flip chart, a marker pen and some Post-it notes.
Kepner-Tregoe Analysis. First formulated to identify the cause of the Challenger disaster in 1986, this tool is useful in defining the core issue at hand.
Ask yourself the following questions:
What is the problem?
What isn't the problem?
What is distinctive about it?
Where is the problem?
Where isn't the problem?
Who/what does the problem involve?
Who/what doesn't the problem involve?
When did or when does the problem occur?
When did or when doesn't it occur?
Now look back through your answers and discuss what they tell you about the problem.
